The Truth About One-Stop-Shop Wedding Vendors: A Candid Word of Advice
I’ve been a wedding photographer for years, and in that time, I’ve had the honor of capturing some of the most intimate, emotional, and joyful moments of people’s lives. I take that responsibility seriously, and my wife Samantha and I are so passionate about what we do. The images we create at Kropp Photography aren’t just pictures; they’re the visual legacy of each couples love story. And because of that, I feel a deep obligation to share something that too many couples don’t realize until it’s too late.
“…there’s a dirty little secret that many of these companies won’t tell you…”
If you’re planning your wedding, you’ve likely come across those big, all-inclusive wedding companies – the ones that offer photography, videography, DJ services, even floral arrangements, all bundled together in one neat little package. On the surface, it seems like an easy, convenient solution. But oftentimes, there’s a dirty little secret that many of these companies won’t tell you. Couples on social media are circulating story after story of their own wedding experiences, and their heartbreaking realizations that they have been taken advantage of, and there’s practically nothing they can do about it now.
When it comes to your wedding photography, the who behind the camera matters just as much – if not more – than the what they’re offering.

The Hidden Risk of Convenience
The business model of these large, multi-service companies is built on volume, not craftsmanship. Their priority is booking as many weddings as possible, often at lower prices, which means they’re operating on thin margins. To keep up with demand, they rely on a revolving door of freelancers, part-time photographers, and, in some cases, last-minute hires they find on social media just days before your wedding.
“…a revolving door of freelancers, part-time photographers, and, in some cases, last-minute hires they find on social media just days before your wedding.”
We’ve personally seen posts in online photography groups from these companies looking for a fill-in photographer the week of a wedding. Imagine that – you’ve planned your wedding for months, maybe years, and the person or people that show up to capture it are randomly chosen and hired just days before, and not because they’re the best fit, but because they happened to be available.
That’s a terrifying thought, one that fills many with anxiety, frustration and anger.
These companies often showcase polished or curated portfolios, but there’s no guarantee that the photographer assigned to your wedding has the same skill, style, or experience as the one whose work you fell in love with. In reality, you may not even meet your photographer until the day of your wedding.

We're Biased - Wedding Photography is Different
In a lot of situations, a DJ, a caterer, or a florist can send a team of people and still execute a consistent service. Photography, however, is deeply personal. It’s an art form shaped by the photographer’s experience, instincts, and connection with you, and the results are not fleeting – they are lasting, priceless memories captured for all time. They are generational heirlooms.
Powerful, when you think of it in that kind of context.
The best photographers – those who have truly mastered their craft – don’t just show up and take pictures. They understand lighting in any environment, they anticipate fleeting emotional moments before they happen, and they bring out the best in people who may not feel entirely comfortable in front of a camera. They are, in essence, the keepers of your wedding day memories, and your wedding day guide. Your photographers will typically spend more time with you on your wedding day than any other vendor.
That level of attention and expertise doesn’t happen by accident, and it certainly doesn’t come from a photographer who was randomly assigned to your wedding from a database of freelancers, or a last minute social media post in some random wedding photography Facebook group.

Not All One-Stop Shops Are Bad—But You Need to Ask the Right Questions
Now, to be completely fair, not all multi-service wedding companies operate this way. Some have built reliable teams with dedicated professionals who truly care about their craft. There are reputable companies that carefully select their photographers, ensure stylistic consistency, and prioritize a great client experience.
The problem is, many couples don’t know the difference. How would they? Most newly engaged couples who are just beginning their wedding planning journey have no idea how to distinguish between the good ones and the ones that are just focused on volume. And that’s really why I’m writing this – to help couples make informed decisions.
If you’re considering booking an all-in-one wedding company, ask the right questions:
- Who will be my actual photographer? Can I meet them before booking?
- Can I see full wedding galleries from this photographer—not just a highlight reel?
- How long has this photographer been working with your company?
- What happens if they cancel last-minute? Do you guarantee an equal replacement?
- Do your photographers all edit their own work, or does your company process images to match a general style?
A trustworthy company will be transparent about these things. A high-volume, low-quality operation will avoid specifics and focus on selling you the package instead.

Why Working With Us is Different
When couples work with Kropp Photography, they know exactly who will be capturing their wedding. There is no mystery, no surprises. When you hire us, you get us.
My wife Sam and I have built this business together over the past ten years, and when couples sit down with us or speak with us, they immediately see how well we work together. We’re not just partners in life; we’re partners in everything we do, including the way we photograph weddings.
We don’t just show up and take pictures. We take the time to understand each couple’s unique dynamic, their personalities, and their vision. We’re not just documenting your wedding; we’re telling your story. That requires connection, trust, and a deep understanding of what makes your relationship special.
And because we’re a dedicated team, there are no surprises, no last-minute substitutions – just us, committed to creating something extraordinary for you.

Your Wedding Deserves the Best, Not Just the Easiest Option
I completely understand the appeal of bundling services together – it seems convenient, efficient, even cost-effective. But when it comes to photography, what you gain in convenience, you often lose in quality, authenticity, and personal attention. And I can promise you this: when your wedding day is over, and all that’s left are the memories, the photos that remain will either bring you joy, or bring you disappointment. They will remind you of an amazing experience or a frustrating, painful one.
That’s why we want every couple – whether they work with us or not – to be thoughtful about this choice. Ask questions. Meet in person. Look at full wedding galleries. Talk to couples that have actually worked with the photographers you are considering hiring. Do your research!
At the end of the day, your wedding photos are more than just images. They are the tangible, lasting memories of the story of your wedding day, and will be the lasting representation of one of the most important and special days of your life.
Warmest Regards,
Brian Kropp
