Sally & Shawn | Wedding at Sapphire Creek Winery | Chagrin Falls, Ohio
When Samantha and I first met Sally, we knew right away that we 100% for certain wanted to photograph her wedding at Sapphire Creek Winery & Gardens.
We met by chance at an event being hosted at none other than Sapphire Creek, and we quickly became friends. Sally guided us on our first tour of the grounds, and Sam and I were blown away.
After that initial meeting, we met once more, were introduced to Shawn, and the rest is history.

They absolutely loved their wedding album! Samantha and I walked them through and helped them design every single page – it’s just like completely reliving the day all over again

A Wedding at Sapphire Creek Winery
Before the Ceremony
The morning of Sally and Shawn’s wedding was super laid back. We were able to capture some images of the venue itself, but also of some amazing arrangements created by the Budding Tree, a talented floral design team from Monroe Falls, Ohio as well as the always immaculate linens from L’Nique Specialty Linens in Valley View, Ohio .
The unique layout of a wedding at Sapphire Creek Winery allowed us to really utilize the entire space and get a variety of images of our couple getting ready – from the private balcony where our bride got ready down to the private downstairs bar and tasting room where our groom was comfortably stashed away.
Sally popping a bottle of champagne with her girls all around her has got to be one of the highlight images of this entire gallery, in my opinion. Sam captured this one and I can’t get enough of how real and genuine it is. Every single bridesmaid is looking AND smiling at the bride-to-be!
Sally’s expression is priceless.
Sally’s mother assisting her with her dress was so special, and Shawn and his guys all looked very dapper.
The First Look
The beautiful landscaping and winding path behind Sapphire Creek (visit their website HERE) created a perfect setting for our couple to have their first look prior to their ceremony.
The first look also gave them some time to have a little intimate moment with each other, before the rest of the day ensued.
The Bride & Groom
As soon as our couple was ready to move on with the day, we went right into couples photos.
Spending time together shooting their Cleveland Museum of Art engagement photos session several months before really helped us create a great relationship with Sally and Shawn before their wedding at Sapphire Creek Winery & Gardens.
Sam and I love to do that because when the wedding day comes, we are able to capture photos like these comfortably and naturally. I really think our couples appreciate and understand that.
Bridesmaids & Groomsmen
For many, having close friends be a part of your wedding is one of the best parts of the entire day. Those friends can share in your experience and share in the emotions that surely come with such a meaningful event.
Outdoor Wedding Ceremony
The crisp fall weather was perfect for the outdoor ceremony. Guests gathered to witness and support the joining of two loving people, and it really was a wonderful moment enjoyed by all.
The flower girl was absolutely adorable. The image of her sitting during the ceremony is one of my favorites.
Her playing with flower petals among the flowing bridesmaids dresses and the tail of the brides wedding dress is a story in and of itself. I love it.
Bury the Bourbon Ceremony
First things first – what is the “Bury the Bourbon” tradition, and why is it done?
A “Bury the Bourbon” ceremony is a little known southern wedding tradition where couples bury a bottle of bourbon upside down exactly a month before their wedding to guarantee a non-rainy wedding day.
After the ceremony is over and the happy couple have both said “I Do” on their wedding day, they dig up the bottle of bourbon together and share it with their closest family, friends, and loved ones. Sally and Shawn even had a custom label made for their bottle of Woodford Reserve, which you can see on the bottle.
I recommend learning a little more about how Sapphire Creek puts a little twist on their “Bury the Bourbon” ceremony.
Don’t worry though…the flower girl, although curious and eager as the image might suggest, did not partake in the ceremony. We all got a laugh out of that one. These images are so precious, and the ceremony was a wonderful addition to the day, for sure.
The Grand Entrance - Cutting a Rug and Cutting the Cake
After enjoying a freshly “dug up” bottle of bourbon with friends and family, it was time for the grand entrance. Sally and Shawn did NOT disappoint. Their choreographed dance moves were a huge hit, and DJ Wolf of Premium Entertainment got the night started with energy and great music for the rest of the evening.
The elegant wedding cake was a hit as well, and the new husband and wife enjoyed delicately feeding it to each other before opening up the dance floor to all the guests.
Wedding Day Comes to an End
The end of the wedding day always seems to come abruptly, and this day was no exception.
We made sure to steal the bride and groom away for a few nighttime photos. They happily obliged.
We can’t thank Sally and Shawn enough for letting us not only capture their day for them, but for really allowing us in and to feel like we were a part of their wedding day.
We are even more thankful to now call them friends, and we wish them all the best in the world.
